We've reached Week 2! How are you doing? I'm in New Orleans so my week might be a little indulgent. Sunday I'll be back to post recipes and tips..
PHYSICAL
To be physically fit doesn’t just mean a lower number on the scale or fitting in my pants. ALTHOUGH IT REALLY DOES MEAN FITTING IN MY DAMN PANTS. Being physically fit means being in sync with mind and heart. Right now my flabby, squishy body is representative of the chaos that is my life mentally, emotionally, professionally, romantically, and spiritually/artistically.
I'm already reaching that point where I kind of (emphasize kind of) look forward to working out, feeling that burn, feeling my muscles ache, feeling some sort of tightness and strength and change.
MENTAL/EMOTIONAL
For this week try to like yourself a little more. I'm saddened by how self-critical some of my nearest and dearest are. Did you ever notice that the nicest people aren't nice enough to themselves, and people who are jerks are often a little too nice to themselves?
Treat yourself the way you would treat a dear friend. Be supportive. Be your cheerleader, not your critic, not your judge. Have confidence. Don’t care what people say or think. Stand up for yourself!
PROFESSIONAL
Thrown any staplers lately? Knuckle thumped any co-workers lately? When you go to work is it just a job or are you happy to be there? Are you developing like you want to? How are your relationships with coworkers? Distant? A little too close for comfort?
Next Week – How to deal with office drama, bullying, people who talk shit, career development, and more. Link up and tell me how you've all been doing!! I have lots of great tips, ideas, and stories to share planned for when I get back. I'll talk to you in a few days!! :)
Last Week - You might have missed:

PHYSICAL
What do you do when you work out and can’t lose weight? I follow this principle: to lose weight, add weight. If you are doing cardio three times a week, things probably won’t change very quickly and you will hit a plateau and become frustrated. If your diet doesn’t change, things probably won’t change. However, if you add weight resistance, things will definitely change. You'll feel it soon.
My goals for the coming week:
- Flexibility. I can’t even touch my toes.
- Strength in my core. Right now I can’t even do a single sit-up.
- Tone. I will do 30-40 minutes of cardio 3-4 times a week. I'm almost there.
- Endure. I will do Zumba for more than 15 mins. Without wanting to punch people.
- Brave. Return to Kickboxing. I used to do martial arts now I can’t even go to an aerobics.
- Slim. Drop 20lbs of Prime Pish Posh Chub. I’m going to forgive myself for this week because I’m in New Orleans with friends and I need to eat and drink and be merry.
- Intensify. When I return, I am going to start a 21 day intensity burn. You can join me, if you like: it begins this Monday, March 19. I’ll post plyometric techniques.
I'm already reaching that point where I kind of (emphasize kind of) look forward to working out, feeling that burn, feeling my muscles ache, feeling some sort of tightness and strength and change.

Great Pish!!! It must be great to get away.....sometimes we just need it don't we. Trouble with me is I lost friends somewhere along the way and my husband is my only friend....but sometimes he is what I need to get away from. Did I mention that he is one of my many challenges? Hmmmm. Maybe not, but he is. I may never conquer and win that challenge....
I am still working on some of my challenges. Will post later!
Have fun and be safe!
Well, I lost about three lbs and then gained them back and now have lost two lol... so there you go - not sure if we can call the progress! And today I read an article (sort of read) about how wonderful yoghurt is for losing weight - and that you should eat three portions daily (low fat yoghurt of course). Somehow it helps - but I didn't pay too much attention as to why.
Have a great time in New Orleans!
GO YOU! I've been working on a year long goal to lose 40 lbs. I am on week 8 and have lost 6 lbs. But I can do push-ups! And sit ups! And my pants are starting to fit again! So I call that a win.
Holy crap I love New Orleans. I lived there for about 4 years. I am filled with jealousy right now as the last time I was there was over a year ago. I am PRETTY sure that crawfish etoufee is good for you, and hurricanes are low carb.
And my job feels like an abusive relationship on most days. But I could leave it any time I wanted to leave him. I mean it. Aw, crap.
I love kickboxing too! One piece of advice, NEVER DATE THE INSTRUCTOR. It makes you fat when you break up.
Sounds like you've got yourself a clear plan - and that's the first step! Keep going, you're doing fab! x
I have NO flexibility either - at all! I'm with you on the plan though - very motivating! x
"Did you ever notice that the nicest people aren't nice enough to themselves, and people who are jerks are often a little too nice to themselves?"
So true.
I hope you are enjoying the Big Easy!! Such good food there - you definitely need to allow yourself to indulge a little.
Wow! New Orleans, cool. I've always wanted to go. That's some of my favorite food down there...I'd be in big trouble. Hope you are having fun.
Anyway, I seriously could have wrote your post this week. Especially the part about office bullshit. I am stuck right in the middle of it and hate it. I love my job, but all the negative, back stabby crap is about to make me quit. The last couple of days have found me crying in the bathroom..."Don't let the bastards win! Don't let them see you weak". The most amazing thing to me is it's women !!! I swear to God, I don't understand why women treat other women so badly. Sisterhood? HA! Not where I work. When my back starts to ache, I always check the mirror to see if there's a knife causing sticking out. So I am really looking forward to your tips about that.
If I can make one suggestion Pish, break your weight loss goals down into bites. Instead of the whole enchilada, say 5 lbs, or even 2. That way when you hit that goal, it's gives you positive feed back that you can do this! My goal was to lose 2 a week to start. And I've lost 3 so it really pushes me to keep up what I'm doing. Just a thought
I also watched 2 great movies, "Sick Fat and Nearly Dead" and "Killer at Large". Very motivating!
What you said about people being nice is so damn true...why is that? I stay up late making things for others instead of getting sleep. I spend money I don't have on fund raisers. I am "the mother hen" where I work. It's a nickname my former principal gave me. It's because I always remember birthdays, ask about sick children, laid off husband etc. She said my memory was incredible that I remembered everything going on in people's lives and asked about it. I also bring in fresh flowers for everybody out of my yard, goodies, garden harvests. I'm the first to buy stuff for their student's fund raisers. Volunteer for the latest thing at school. Etc. Etc. My husband thinks I'm crazy. He says those people don't give a shit about you, why do you do all this? And I always tell him that I spend my life with these people, more so then him sometimes, they are more then co workers and friends, they are family.
But his statement never rang more true then last year when my mom suddenly died and I got the call from my brother at work. Only a couple of people helped me. Everyone else just went on about their business and didn't give a shit. No "I'm sorry" "Is there anything I can do" flowers, cards, NOTHING! I was back to work the next day because I didn't have a choice. Then at my evaluation, my supervisor gave me shit for crying, not "being present" in my job, making a couple of little mistakes because I was distracted, blah blah fuckity blah blah. It's the same woman that's giving me crap again. But here's the thing, it didn't change me. I still do all the same things I did before. It's who I am, I can't change it nor do I want to.
Okay tell me about this favorite food thing. Everyone said that and all I saw was fried food.
Oh let's definitely do some posting about backstabbing and sisterhood. It needs to happen.
I think a few of us are experiencing that right now :( Sorry you are too!!
I think you are right about breaking things into smaller chunks. Congrats on losing 3! I haven't lost any but I'm going to really get serious starting Monday. I'll look for those movies, thanks!!!!
Thanks Vesta!! It was alright - tell me about this good food there though. You're a vegetarian - I found it was mostly fried meat.
Gator.
And such ;)
Oh my gosh that's HORRIBLE!! I'm so sorry for your loss! I'm sorry you are feeling so let down by everyone too, especially when you make such an effort. People can be inherently selfish sometimes, and maybe they didn't know if it was okay to try to help. But I don't know that is really incredible that people were so thoughtless. If it was me I would have given you lots of hugs and flowers and just let you talk and cry on my shoulder. Consider this a virtual hug!! xx
You should read Vesta Vayne's book - you can download it for.99 on Amazon and it's SO good. It really captures the mentality of shitty bosses, the stress of personal hurts while being stabbed in the back by beezies at work, all that - it's a great book!!
The most important thing is to stay who you are inside, and remain kind and loving if you can. Because that's important to you.
And I bet you do touch people's lives in more ways than you know. And sometimes people appreciate these things without knowing how to say thank you!! Thank you for your comments!!
I will touch these toes in the next few months. It's so embarrassing when others are like wrapping their legs around their heads like noodles and I'm like, I cant touch mah tooooes.
Thanks Jen!
GOOD TO KNOW!! My instructor is my female friend ;)
Congrats on the weight loss! I envy you! And the strength to do situps and pushups. Holy crap - it's pathetic I can't do a single one.
Crawfish freak me out - they're so ugly they look like horrible water bugs. I can't eat them ;)
LoL! I'm sorry your job is abusive - can you walk away? I mean really? Or is it a marriage for life?
Ah yes yogurt is good for everything. But you can't just eat yogurt and then a burger and say, what? I ate yogurt! ;) I think it's good for clearing out your stomach bacteria and also it's a protein so it's better than fried cheese ha
I was in great shape before the winter set in and I have gained about 20 lbs so I am taking this thing under control before it gets out of hand. I have muscle atrophy from sitting down all winter but getting up off of my haunches and joining the Pish Posh Challenge!
Yay!! We have the same goals. Let's get up and punch winter in the face together!!
Aw-shucks! lol
You are so right about how people treat themselves the opposite of how they treat others...I never thought of it that way! This was not my best week, but I got *some* training done.
I was in New Orleans. This was not my best week either :) We try again this week!
Food, well let's see...gumbo, jambalaya, shrimp, blackened fish, dirty rice and beans, all of it!
I downloaded the book onto my Ipad immediately and have been reading it since. I love it! Amazing that the same things happen at all levels of employment.
I was thinking about the saying yesterday "What doesn't kill us makes us stronger" and thinking, well enough already, I can't take much more. Then this morning I get in my truck to go to work and the Kelly Clarkson song by the same title starts playing. I cracked up. I believe in "messeges" from the universe and if that wasn't one, I don't know what one is. So it's the start of a new week, I'm at me desk and let's see what happens.
Aha! You see, I don't eat any of that. So I appreciate that this was just not my type of food rather than the food was bad. If you eat fish and meat this would have totally been the place :)
Reply
I hope it's better for you!! People can be such turds. Tune them out if you can.
Things will get better - they have to get better.
