I always hated Valentine's Day when I was with someone. The pressure is ridiculous. I spend so much energy trying to make sure I don't screw it up, I do not enjoy it. I had a couple of years that I was with a girl that was pretty laid back and we enjoyed it. I still went all out for her, but knew she would be happy with my effort. I have never experienced that with anyone else. This is a much dreaded holiday and I am more than happy to be single during this time of year.
Why do people get so bent out of shape over valentines day? If you're single, are you really going to let this day make you suddenly realize how lonely and desperate you are? If you were fine before this day, just ignore the date on the calendar. It is just another day.
That's pretty much how I feel about Christmas
And yet, its always people with boyfriends and husbands who have zero sympathy for single people, Peez-meister, always the people who have someone to love and be loved by, who say its not that bad being on your own.
I don't mind being single, personally, but I have sympathy for those that feel lonely, as we are only human.

I just have noticed a few friends who are in super happy relationships saying "what's the big deal why everyone so miserable its not that bad" because I think love is an amnesiac and makes people forget. It isn't that bad being single, but sometimes it feels like poop.

I have forgotten my last single period was very hard, but being in the relationship before it was even harder. I do remember that first valentines day being single was especially icky. I didn't realize at first that was your article linked up top. Such a great article! :) I thought it was going to be all bitter and angry but it had a great message. loved it
